[He still can't stop thinking about his friend Akito losing the guy he loved and seeing Rei in that reaction. So even though Rei's out, he has a question he feels he needs answered right right now now.]

Hey Rei-chan, I can't remember if you told me but... when did we start dating?

We have been dating since you arrived, of course.

[Seconds later.]

Ah wait. You mean before that. We have been dating since December 5th.

4 months... That's good to know. Soon I'll remember more of our time together than I forgot.

[And then a bit later]

Oh... A friend lost his boyfriend, I think anyway. Guy he loved - loves, still - and it just made me feel bad, because I can't help him at all, not the way I've been trying to help people. The way Mako-chan and Ishtar-chan said I was good at.

And I thought 'Oh... If this is what it's like when someone leaves...'

[He can't really finish it. He's afraid of the implications as it is, but Rei did ask. So there he went, blabbering.]

Where are you, Nagisa-kun? I will come join you.

I'm in our room right now but I think I want to take a walk right now.

[And he's there, leaning against the exterior wall with his PCD in his hand, playing his copy of Gokudera's Pong game. So he's definitely not paying attention to the world around him.]

[Rei arrives in a minute as he promised and notices Nagisa is distracted. Leaning down, he decides to be daring and presses a kiss to his cheek. Since anyone could walk up, that's almost public affection for Rei!]

[It is public affection for all Nagisa cares about, and someone certainly knows how to cheer him up because his head jerks up with a start, game forgotten as one hand rises to touch his cheek.

Yeah, that gets him to smile.]

Rei-chan...

[There. That's the boyfriend he adores. He smiles warmly at him then holds out his hand. Yes, he's offering to hold hands while they walk.]

I'm ready to go.

[He purses his lips in surprise and excitement because Rei is just too sweet right now. After putting away his PCD, he reaches to take Rei's hand.]

Okay. Let's go.

[He tries not to swing his hand with how much happier he feels just being in a 5-foot-radius of Rei as they walk.]

I didn't mean to bring down your mood. I was just thinking a lot.

Ah, I'm alright, Nagisa-kun. Let's focus more on you right now.

[He gives his hand a squeeze as they head out to walk.]

You looked like you could use someone to help you to feel better. As your boyfriend, it's my duty to help you smile again.

[Anyone else would get hung up on a subtle distinction between 'duty' and joy or pleasure, but not Nagisa. He knows what Rei meant and it's just as beautiful a sentiment as the hand-holding.]

You're good at it too.

[They keep walking and Nagisa starts to think more, but his smile doesn't fade.]

I'm really lucky to have you.

[He blinks at that. Lucky to have him?]

But I must be terrible. I get so flustered when we...do things. Even though I do like them!

[He doesn't want Nagisa to think he's forcing himself into them. That isn't it at all!]

You're much better than I am. I'm really the lucky one.

[He leans closer on Rei's arm while they walk and hums a little.]

Mmm, but you're cute even when your face is red. The truth is it doesn't matter who's more comfortable when we do things-

[He squeezes Rei's hand back.]

It's because of you that we're together - I mean, still together. You didn't give up on me even when I forgot about us dating. I can't get any luckier than that.

[Stopping them, he moves in front of Nagisa while he takes both hands. He's very passionate about what he has to say next.]

Nagisa-kun would never give up on me so I will never give up on Nagisa-kun. We are boyfriends and I care about you. No matter what happens, that will never change for me.

[So fierce.]

[So handsome. Nagisa stops with Rei and listens intently. He doesn't need Rei to be as outspoken or outgoing as him with regards to their relationship, but in this moment... he's really grateful that Rei chooses this moment to be vocal about his feelings after being physical too.]

[Still holding both of Rei's hands, he leans forward into Rei's arms and hold them at his side.]

I feel the same. I promise I won't give up on you even if... [He doesn't want to say it, doesn't even want to imagine the way Rei might have looked when Nagisa had 'left' or what Nagisa himself might look like if he suffered that same fate. Akito's fate.]

No matter what.

[Wrapping his arms around him, he holds him close. So often Nagisa is there for him. Now, it's his turn.]

Now matter what. We're together now, Nagisa-kun.

[There it goes, he's blushing and burying his face in Rei's chest.]

I just want us to stay together. That's why I wanted to take weapon lessons, and I don't go out at night, so I won't get attacked like Gou-chan...

There's got to be more though... Something else I - we - can do?

Well, you found a way to get me to join a swim club when I couldn't swim. I think that we'll find a way to make it work together.

[He sounds very confident of that fact.]
